The London Borough of Lambeth is one of 32 London boroughs. Each borough is responsible for the day to day running of education, housing, social services, the environment and other important issues. Here in Lambeth, as part of the council's commitment to creating a cleaner, greener borough, we are striving to deliver more sustainable homes.

Langholm Close

Our homes and buildings are contributing to climate change, because they use too much energy. Here at Langholm Close we are collecting power from the sun to make electricity and we have made the buildings much more energy efficient. Both of these things help to reduce the building's contribution to climate change. Welcome to the future.

What is Langholm Close?

Langholm Close is a block of flats built in the 1970s. The refurbishment work carried out by Lambeth Housing in 2004 showed that it is possible to refurbish our homes in a way which reduces their environmental impact. At Langholm Close, Lambeth Housing used lots of insulation, making the homes warmer and cheaper to run. They also installed solar photovoltaic cells to generate electricity which is totally clean, and the wood used was certified as sustainable by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
